Health Foundation awards TTUHSC El Paso $165,000 grant to Help Launch a New Mental Health Program for Youth

January 14, 2020

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso a $165,000 grant to assist with the launch of a program to improve mental healthcare for children and adolescents in the El Paso region.

The grant will help pay for start-up consultation services to establish the west Texas regional hub of the new Child Psychiatry Access Network (CPAN) at TTUHSC El Paso. The state-wide network is part of the Texas Mental Health Care Consortium created by Senate Bill 11, a school-safety bill signed into law this year by Gov. Greg Abbott.

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is pleased to announce the election of Ruben Guerra to serve as Board Chair for 2020. Mr. Guerra has served on the board since 2016. He is President/CEO for Guerra Investment Advisors.

Organizations join forces to inform, warn on THC Vaping products

The use of THC with vaping products is on the rise among youth and young adults in El Paso, and now two area health agencies are partnering to battle the outbreak.

As part of a unified effort to build community awareness, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation (PdNHF) and El Paso Behavioral Health Consortium partners are working together to develop and disseminate informational resources about the risks related to THC vaping.

Three new grants awarded under Healthy Kids Priority Area

December 13, 2019

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded three new additional grants totaling more than $277,000 under the Healthy Kids Priority Area – IGNITE Initiative. These additional grants are part of 10 other grants that were awarded in November. The goal of the IGNITE Initiative is to improve a range of health outcomes by engaging disconnected youth in the region in high quality programs during out-of-school hours. The Health Foundation refers to “disconnected youth” as people between the ages of 5-17 who are not involved in out-of-school activities or not working.
