UTEP Honors Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s 30 Years of Partnership and Impact
November 17, 2025
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) celebrated the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s 30th anniversary with a dedication ceremony recognizing its decades-long partnership and commitment to improving community health.
UTEP dedicated the terrace of its Health Sciences and Nursing Building as the Paso del Norte Health Foundation Terrace and unveiled Health in Mind, Body, and Spirit, a statue by artist Julio Sanchez De Alba symbolizing unity and collaboration.
Since its founding, the Health Foundation has granted $38.5 million to UTEP for health education and disease prevention initiatives — from smoke-free programs and diabetes prevention to healthcare workforce development. This includes a $4.5 million matching grant in 2024 to expand UTEP Health programs in nursing, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
Health Foundation Board Chair Amy Marcus and UTEP President Heather Wilson highlighted the collaboration’s lasting impact on education, innovation, and regional well-being. Over three decades, the Foundation has championed initiatives promoting active living, healthy eating, and public health across El Paso, southern New Mexico, and Ciudad Juárez.
CEO Tracy J. Yellen reaffirmed the Health Foundation’s commitment to the power of education and collaboration in building a healthier future.
