Advancing Diabetes Prevention, Education, and Care in Southern New Mexico

August 22, 2025

The Southern New Mexico Diabetes Organization (SNMDO) recently hosted the first-ever Southern New Mexico Diabetes Alliance, convening 20 organizations committed to improving diabetes prevention, education, and care in the region. This landmark gathering fostered cross-sector collaboration to strengthen efforts in addressing the growing impact of diabetes in southern New Mexico.

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (PdNHF) played an important role in the meeting, sharing its ongoing initiatives focused on diabetes prevention, early detection, and effective disease management. With PdNHF’s support, participants engaged in a goal-setting session that identified two immediate priorities: enhancing the Southern New Mexico Alliance resource section on the “Diabetes, Now What?” website and planning a half-day diabetes conference in 2026.

SNMDO will coordinate these collective efforts with the continued partnership of PdNHF. Together, they are committed to engaging funded and non-funded partners to better serve individuals and families affected by diabetes and ensure a stronger, more connected support system for communities across southern New Mexico.
