PdNHF Board Approves New Diabetes Strategic Plan

PdNHF Board Approves New Diabetes Strategic Plan

July 28, 2026

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation invests in programs and policies that promote health and prevent disease in the region. Recently, the PdNHF Board of Directors adopted a new Diabetes Strategy Brief that will guide the Foundation’s investments over the next four years.

Through this strategy, the PdNHF aims to ensure people across the region have the knowledge to understand their diabetes risk and management, the confidence to advocate for their health, and the support they need to live healthier lives. The strategic plan will guide PdNHF’s investments from 2026-2030.

In El Paso County, nearly 15.3% of adults, or about 94,000 people, are living with diabetes. El Paso’s diabetes rate exceeds both the Texas rate of 12.6% and the national rate of 11.3%. To help change the trajectory of the disease and improve health outcomes, the PdNHF makes strategic investments in organizations that are advancing diabetes prevention and management across the region.

Recently, PdNHF approved 23 new grants totaling $3,232,796.07 to support organizations advancing diabetes prevention and management across the region. This represents the largest investment awarded for PdNHF’s Diabetes initiative in a single grant cycle.

This work is only possible through the strength of our community partnerships. In 2022, the PdNHF established the Diabetes Alliance to bring together nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners in diabetes care. Today, the Diabetes Alliance is sustained by the El Paso Center for Diabetes as a space for coordination, shared learning, and community input.

Understanding your risk for diabetes starts with a simple step you can take today. The Diabetes Now What? website offers a quick online risk assessment to help you understand your risk and take the next step toward a healthier future.

By connecting people with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to prevent and manage diabetes, the Foundation remains committed to fulfilling the promise it made at its inception in 1995: leading, leveraging, and investing in initiatives, programs, and policies that promote health and prevent disease in the Paso del Norte region.
