Supporting Families, Strengthening Communities: Mental Health Matters
August 26, 2025
Mental health is health—and no parent or child should have to walk their journey alone. Thanks to the El Paso Child Guidance Center, and with the support of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, families across El Paso County have access to compassionate care, evidence-based programs, and vital resources that nurture emotional well-being.
Through its Prevention/Intervention (P/I) Program, the Center provides interventions designed to strengthen families and empower youth. Services include educational groups, trauma-informed care and wellness training, professional consultations, community outreach, and advocacy efforts that break down barriers to care.
Educational groups support both youth and caregivers with practical tools for managing anxiety, nurturing parenting skills, and building resiliency. Trauma-informed training helps caregivers and professionals better support children and families, while consultations ensure other community agencies are equipped with effective strategies. Outreach and advocacy activities further extend the Center’s impact—promoting emotional wellness and encouraging collaboration with schools and partner organizations.
“Prevention/Intervention is important to the community as it is the first step in raising awareness for mental health. The focus on education and training assists in decreasing stigma and ensuring that the community has awareness of the resources available to them through El Paso Child Guidance Center,” — Amanda Muñoz, LPC-S, Clinical Operations Director
These services reach families throughout El Paso County, including rural communities such as Canutillo, San Elizario, and Clint, ensuring that support is available where it’s needed most. By focusing on education, awareness, and collaboration, the program helps reduce stigma, increase knowledge of behavioral health, and connect more families to care.
The Paso del Norte Health Foundation has been a long-time partner of the Center, working together to expand mental health awareness, foster community collaborations, and create lasting pathways of support for youth, caregivers, and professionals alike.
