Eat Well! El Paso program helps to provide healthier meals

When it comes to the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) initiative, more is better.
The more multi-disciplined the approach, the greater the odds a cross-section of the region will benefit.
The more there is a mixture of programs that teach people the skills they need to live a healthier life and availability of nutritious food to make healthy lifestyle choices, the better the chances that HEAL will take root and create lifelong habits.

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (Health Foundation) was recognized by the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) as a Golden Impact Community Partner. This is given to an organization for their commitment to the university and contributions to student success. The College of Health Sciences nominated the Health Foundation.

Sharon Butterworth honored for her dedication to mental health issues

There are few leaders in our community who are as knowledgeable, determined and gracious as El Paso’s own Sharon Butterworth.
Sharon has spent more than two decades working to improve services for and change the perceptions about people with mental illness in our region and across the state. She’s served as a community-advocate and leader on multiple local and state boards dedicated to mental health and social services. Playa Drain Trail Community Meeting

To keep El Pasoans safe and active, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation is partnering with the City of El Paso and El Paso Water to build a linear trail from Ascarate Park to Riverside High School. The planned Playa Drain Trail will run parallel to loop 375/border highway on the banks of a former irrigation ditch.
The 3.4 mile trail will offer opportunity for recreation and physical activity (walking/biking) for use by residents throughout the region and as an alternative to driving for near-by residents, and is part of the Health Foundation’s commitment to making active living the easy…

New mapping tools to help connect school-aged youth with available out of school programs

The Health Foundation is excited to share an interactive mapping tool to help community organizations, schools and local leaders understand the availability of out of school programs for school aged youth in the Paso del Norte region.
Developed by the Health Foundation as part of the IGNITE Initiative, the maps illustrate of out of school programs along with census population data for youth ages 7-18 by in El Paso county and Doña Ana, Luna, and Otero counties in New Mexico. Data is also available by youth population ages 6-17 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.
