A safe place for kids to hang-out in Las Cruces

The Boys & Girls Club of Las Cruces has partnered with the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s IGNITE Initiative to engage disconnected youth in out-of-school programs such as Teen Night.
Teen Night is available to middle and high school students in the community every Friday. This allows students to spend time with friends in a safe environment and help them avoid risky behaviors like vaping, alcohol and drug use or being involved in criminal activity. One out of every five children will need or be required to obtain mental health services throughout their teenage years. The El Paso Child Guidance Center helps provide these services from ADHD conditions to more complex issues such as trauma.

Health Foundation Program Officer awarded Walking College Fellowship for America Walks 2019 program

Jana Renner, Program Officer for the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, is one of 27 advocates from across the country awarded the Walking College Fellowship from America Walks.
As a Walking College Fellow, Ms. Renner will participate in a five-month training program designed to strengthen local efforts to make communities more walkable and livable. Eight years ago, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation (Health Foundation) was one of several leaders in the community that founded the Paso del Norte Health Information Exchange (PHIX) – a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to improve health through collaboration and data technology. Today, PHIX is a robust network of health care providers that share health information electronically through a highly secure technology platform designed to ensure that providers have the data they need to provide patients with the best possible clinical care.

The Paso del Norte Community Foundation and Paso del Norte Health Foundation are pleased to recognize Rosemary Hernandez and Faviola Calvo on their new positions in the Foundations’ Finance Department.
Rosemary has been promoted to Director of Accounting. Her previous position was Accounting Manager for the Paso del Norte Community Foundation. Faviola has been promoted to Accountant II. Her previous position was Accountant I for the Health Foundation.

Celebrating healthy eating and active living during HEAL Week

The Paso del Norte Institute for Healthy Living at UTEP (IHL) will celebrate HEAL Week from April 13-14 with a variety of events that raise the awareness for the importance of healthy eating and active living in preventing disease, provide continuing education to healthcare providers in the areas of nutrition and obesity, and celebrate IHL partners dedicated to increasing healthy eating and active living in the Paso del Norte region. Three major events will take place during 2019 HEAL Week.

Their educational and support programs are reaching those struggling with mental health conditions and their families in the Paso del Norte region.
