A new staffer joins the Health Foundation

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is pleased to announce that Ashley Vargas has joined the team as Accounting Support Assistant. Ashley supports the Accounting Department in accounts payable, reporting, and other accounting functions for the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and the Paso del Norte Community Foundation. She also serves as support for all areas of customer service.
Ashley has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting with a minor in Finance from the University of Texas at El Paso. She likes spending time with her family and being a mom to her beautiful baby…

In El Paso, the prevalence of diabetes outpaces the national numbers, with an estimated 15.3 percent of adults, or about 94,000 people, living with diabetes.
The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 10 grants totaling more than $1.3 million under the Disease Prevention & Management priority area and Diabetes initiative. The Health Foundation works in partnership with organizations to implement initiatives and programs for diabetes prevention, early detection, and management in the region.

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation seeks Letters of Intent (LOIs) from eligible organizations to promote the Foundation’s Strategic Plan for the Healthy Kids Initiative.
Specifically, the Health Foundation seeks LOIs
- to increase the number of disconnected youth ages 5-17 years old who participate in out-of-school time (OST) programs. We will always remember our loved ones who were taken, who suffered physical injury, and who wear the invisible scars caused by psychological trauma. We will always remember our first responders and medical personnel who worked long hours and provided loving care. We will always remember the outpouring of support from our community, gathering, lighting candles, paying vigil, lifting each other up with acts of kindness, and making donations large and small, from near and far, to ensure the financial resources would be there, now and in the future.

In 2022, the Health Foundation ended the year with $271.9 million in assets, up from $130 million in 1995, keeping administrative expenses less than 1 percent of foundation assets and bringing total grantmaking since inception to nearly $237 million.

Health Foundation CEO Participates in Nonprofit Management program at Harvard Business School

Paso del Norte Health Foundation CEO Tracy J. Yellen recently completed the Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management program at Harvard Business School. The intensive, week-long course was designed to deliver strategic perspectives, practical frameworks, and leadership skills to drive high performance. The program was led by 9 Harvard Business School faculty with 150 non-profit CEOs from across the U.S. and the world.
