Foundation awards grants to support Mental Health and Emotional Well-being

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 10 grants totaling more than $2 million under the Mental Health and Emotional Well-being Priority Area – Think.Change Initiative. The purpose of the Think.Change Initiative is to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, increase training for mental health providers and explore structural changes in the region’s behavioral health treatment system. Students at YISD are making healthy choices

Students at Ysleta Independent School District (YISD) are leading a more healthy and active lifestyle these days, due to the coordinated approach of students, campus staff, and student families that are learning the Coordinated Approach To Child Health or CATCH program. With support from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s (Health Foundation), HEAL Initiative and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, YISD was able to implement the CATCH program over two years in 37 elementary schools, reaching approximately 18,500 students.

As part of an effort to reduce binge drinking, the YMCA and the Rio Grande Safe Communities will hold a FREE Responsive Beverage Service (RBS) training for businesses that sell and serve alcohol. The training covers Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission (TABC) seller-server guidelines and operational practices that support responsible alcohol service including alcohol sales to minors and intoxicated people.

Construction on the Playa Drain Trail has begun
February 14, 2018
On Monday, January 22th, Jordan-Foster Construction received the green light to begin construction of 3.4 miles of the Playa Drain Trail from Ascarate Park to Riverside Park. Construction will begin on the Ascarate Park side of the trail and move in one-mile segments until completed.

The Texas A&M University Colonias project “More Counts/Mas Cuenta” has expanded to include another 200 families from Socorro eastbound to Ft. Hancock thanks to a new round of funding from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation.
