Mental Health is Health: NAMI El Paso

Mental Health is Health: NAMI El Paso

June 24, 2025

There is often a strong focus on men’s physical health—fitness, annual checkups, and heart health—but mental well-being is just as important. Mental health is health!

Too often, men suffer in silence, with men about four times more likely to die by suicide than women. NAMI El Paso, with support from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, is working to change that. Through presentations like NAMI In Our Own Voice and NAMI Ending the Silence, NAMI El Paso provides a platform for speakers to share their mental health journeys. Over 6,000 El Pasoans—more than half of them youth—have heard from NAMI El Paso program leaders that it’s not weak to speak up.

Together, we can build a culture and community where men feel safe speaking up and reaching out. As a community, we can break the stigma, support one another, and ensure no one struggles in silence.
