Common Threads: Empowering Young Chefs with Nutrition Education
March 25, 2025
Common Threads El Paso, a grantee of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, is dedicated to equipping children and families with essential cooking and nutrition skills. Through engaging, hands-on programs like Cooking Skills, World Cuisine, and Small Bites, students from Pre-K through 8th grade learn to make healthier food choices while developing culinary confidence.
“We work with families in the community to provide nutrition education,” says Victoria Aragon, Program Manager of Common Threads El Paso Market. “We also teach culinary skills that help families embrace healthier options in their daily lives.”
- Cooking Skills & World Cuisine: Students learn from professional Chef Instructors how to read recipes, prepare ingredients, cook meals, and maintain a clean kitchen. They also gain hands-on experience using kitchen tools safely and preparing balanced meals.
- Small Bites: This program introduces students to nutrition and healthy snacking through eight interactive lessons. These sessions integrate math, language arts, and science, helping students develop lifelong habits for healthier living.
Common Threads’ work aligns with the Health Foundation’s commitment to making healthy eating a priority in our community through health education, policy and promotion. Learn more about this partnership and our work to promote healthy eating click here.
