Local Educator Gains Insight into Regional Health Work through CREEED Externship
June 24, 2025
The Paso del Norte Health Foundation and Paso del Norte Community Foundation recently hosted Ms. Chenen Bembry-Peralta, a Special Education teacher at Hernando Middle School in the Socorro Independent School District, as part of the CREEED Educator Externship Program.
During her one-week externship, Ms. Bembry-Peralta shadowed Foundation staff to learn firsthand how both organizations work to improve health and quality of life across the region.
The CREEED Educator Externship Program is a unique initiative that places educators in regional businesses for a weeklong, paid professional development experience. The goal is to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world application by giving teachers a deeper understanding of the skills and knowledge students need for future success.
“We were honored to welcome Ms. Bembry-Peralta to our offices,” said Tracy J. Yellen, CEO of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and Paso del Norte Community Foundation. “We hope the insights she gained will enrich her work with students, families, and colleagues as we work together toward a healthier, more vibrant community.”
During her time with the Foundations, Ms. Bembry-Peralta participated in a wide range of activities, including grantee site visits, communications and marketing efforts, financial processes, fundraising, and administrative operations.
“It is amazing to see the two foundations working together to better our community,” said Ms. Bembry-Peralta. To learn more about the CREEED Educator Externship Program, visit creeed.org.
