The Paso del Norte Health Foundation was recently named a recipient of the 2020 SHIFT Award for their work on the Paso del Norte Trail.
The SHIFT Award recognizes individuals, initiatives or organizations from around the United States, that advances or promotes the health benefits of outdoor recreation. The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded two grants totaling more than $755,000 under the Shift + and Healthy Kids Initiatives. The purpose of the Shift+ initiative is to reduce underage drinking and binge drinking in all ages, and the Healthy Kids initiative’s goal is to improve a range of healthy outcomes by engaging disconnected youth in high quality programs during out-of-school hours.

The Paso del Norte Trail (PdN Trail) is a community-driven, collaborative effort to develop a 68-mile long trail in El Paso County that begins near Gadsden Middle School and ends at the County Line Lakes. Awareness Campaign Launches in Borderland to Better Educate Adults
Recent focus group interviews conducted in the El Paso and Las Cruces area confirmed that middle school and high school-aged students often know more about e-cigarettes and vaping than their parents. The interviews, conducted by the A Smoke Free Paso del Norte, an initiative of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, in coordination with the YMCA of El Paso, is the basis of a new educational effort designed to inform adults about vaping among kids in the border region.

El Paso healthcare workers, the community needs your specialized skills to help with the current surge of COVID-19 cases. EP MedCorps was established earlier this year in order to recruit healthcare volunteers in the event of a crisis.

Children at Risk has appointed Dr. Michael Kelly, Vice President of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation to its board of directors. The appointment is for a three-year term that includes members from across Texas.
Children at Risk is a nonprofit organization leading the way to improving the quality of life for Texas’ children through research, public policy analysis, education, collaboration, and advocacy.

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Enrique Mata, Senior Program Officer for the Health Foundation, to the Texas Family and Protective Services Council. This is a position appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott for a five-year term.
