Tobacco 21 goes into effect on September 1

On June 7, Governor Abbot signed SB 21, or Tobacco 21, which raises the minimum legal age in Texas to purchase tobacco from 18 years to 21 years. Tobacco 21 also makes changes to how tobacco sales to minors are enforced. A person can be charged under the law if they sell, give, or knowingly purchase with the intention of providing a cigarette, e-cigarette, or other tobacco product to someone who is younger than 21 years old. A conviction calls for a fine of $100. The new law also requires retailers to train their clerks to prevent a violation of this law. Exemptions to the law include…

As part of our ongoing commitment to stewardship, the Paso del Norte Community Foundation and Paso del Norte Health Foundation are working to move as many functions as possible from paper to digital platforms.
We started the effort to reduce our use of paper and printing internally sharing documents electronically, preparing board materials using a board packet app, and moving the majority of our annual report content online. We have taken another step recently with digital contracts and electronic payments.

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Launch works to address a Crucial Gap

The City of El Paso Police Department in collaboration with Emergence Health Network and the County of El Paso took a big step forward in efforts to improve the behavioral health system of care. The Department launched its Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) to serve El Paso residents experiencing a mental health crisis. The CIT is a co-responder program partnering a specially trained El Paso officer with a masters-level licensed professional clinician from Emergence Health Network.

On May 9, 2019, the REALIZE Executive Leadership program kicked-off in Ciudad Juárez under the Spanish name “REALIZE Liderazgo Transformacional”. Twenty executives active in Ciudad Juárez were selected from a pool of more than 70 nominees. They join the select network of REALIZE leaders from both the US and Mexico. Paso del Norte Trail receives support from City, County, CRRMA

The desire to create healthy and safe recreational areas and routes for the residents in the city and county of El Paso was affirmed this past month with the adoption of a resolution in support of the new, proposed 60-mile county-wide Paso del Norte Trail by four governing bodies.
The El Paso County Commissioners, El Paso City Council and board of the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority unanimously approved a resolution in support of the new recreational hike and bike trail known as the Paso del Norte Trail.
