Preparing for the 2030 Texas Census

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation awarded a small grant recently to support the Texas Census Institute (TxCI) in preparation for the 2030 Texas Census.
TxCI is an independent, nonpartisan, data-driven, and trusted nonprofit organization focused on census policy and program guidance encouraging census participation so all Texans can enjoy a greater quality of life. Utilizing research, TxCI aims to develop resources to increase public awareness of the most effective ways to ensure every Texan counts.

Creating a smoke-free environment in schools

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is proud to partner with Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK), the Paso del Norte Tobacco Control Network, and the American Heart Association to recognize Tornillo Independent School District for adopting updated tobacco-free policies, making it the first district in El Paso County to meet best practices. Health Foundation awards 10 grants under the Healthy Eating Initiative

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 10 grants totaling more than $2.3 million under the Healthy Living priority area. These grants will support nutritious meals, physical activity, home gardens, teacher training, and cooking education programs that help children and adults in the border region live healthier lives.

Local Educator learns the daily work of improving health in the region

Ms. Helga Ericka Kihara, an instructional coach at Canutillo Elementary, shadowed staff from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and the Paso del Norte Community Foundation for one week as part of the CREEED Educator Externship program.
The unique externship program partners with regional businesses and local school districts to provide current educators with a one-week paid externship at a business facility. Investing in Disease Prevention and Management

In 2023, the Health Foundation invested $3.02 million to support 42 grants under the Disease Prevention & Management priority area to advance efforts to prevent and manage diabetes and mental illness across the region.
2023 grantees included:
- Texas Tech Hunt School of Dental Medicine, providing patients who visit the Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic with a routine dental exam and the opportunity to test their A1C;
