Nearly one out of every five members of the Paso del Norte community have a behavioral health disorder and of those nearly 25% are living with serious mental illnesses or substance abuse disorder. While these figures fall in line with other communities, factors such as high levels of individuals with little or no health insurance coverage pose unique challenges in the border region. New Grants to Support Mental Health and Emotional Well-being

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded six grants totaling more than $1.1 million under the Mental Health and Emotional Well-being Priority Area. The Priority Area purpose is to reduce the stigma and negative bias associated with mental illness, and to increase coordination and communication among regional stakeholders to improve the behavioral health system of care.

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (PdNHF) seeks qualifications (RFQ) from interested applicants for development of messages and communication tools for prevention of drug use in vaping products.

On Saturday, August 3, 2019, El Paso met an unwelcome visitor who brought both hate and violence to our community, killing 23, physically injuring 26, and traumatizing thousands more. Our beautiful, resilient community responded immediately and with overwhelming generosity, demonstrative of our community values: caring, compassionate and giving.

Texas Tobacco 21 went into effect on September 1
August 23, 2019
On September 1, 2019, Texas Tobacco 21, the law that raises the minimum legal sales age for tobacco from 18 years to 21 years, officially went into effect. The law includes violations for purchasing or attempting to purchase cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or tobacco products, as well as the use or possession of these products.
Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. Delaying the age when young people first begin using tobacco helps reduce the risk of becoming addicted. About 95 percent of all adults smokers started before the age of 21.

New program to help treat children with feeding difficulties
