The Health Foundation awards new grants under mental health & emotional well-being

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 11 grants totaling more than $1.6 million under the Disease Prevention and Management Priority Area Mental Health and Emotional Well-being Initiative. The Health Foundation works in partnership with organizations to promote emotional well-being, reduce stigma and negative bias, improve access to timely treatment, and increase community support and inclusion to decrease social isolation and improve culture of support and acceptance.

Grantees gathered earlier this month at the Health Foundation to learn and share best practices about their programs and services. Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Paso - $80,803.11 Beyond Youth Mentorship: Building Resilience and Mental Health Wellness To bring mental health awareness and reduce stigma and negative bias by implementing Youth and Teen Mental Health First Aid training to staff, mentors, parents, guardians, board members, and community partners among others in the greater El Paso area.

Centro Caritativo para atencion de Enfermos del Sida A.C. - $87,560.00 PLENA-MENTE To bring mental health awareness and reduce stigma by delivering Mental Health First Aid training to teachers, administrative staff, counselors, and social workers in four secondary schools in the southeastern part of Ciudad Juárez, MX.

Comision de Salud Fronteriza Mexico-Estados Unidos - $197,559.23 ROTMENAS 2023: Contribuir a la respuesta coordinada frente a las necesidadaes y retos de la salud mental To implement data informed actions and strengthen the ROTMENAS behavioral health system of care collaborative, provide evidence-based training for mental health professionals, and to advocate for policy change related to mental health service systems in Ciudad Juárez, MX.

Emergence Health Network - $199,983.60 Mental Health Learning Library To provide evidence-informed trainings for at least 1,100 community members including educators, law enforcement officers, and other professionals. Programs include Mental Health First Aid, Crisis Intervention Training, suicide prevention, among others.

Families and Youth, Inc. - $177,526.44 Local Collaborative 3 To support the Doña Ana Local Collaborative 3’s (LC3) efforts to improve the Doña Ana County mental health and substance use systems of care through action teams working on specific policy, program, and practice improvements to achieve an idea behavioral health system of care.

Families and Youth, Inc. - $114,203.98 NAMI Stigma Reduction Rollout To provide National Alliance on Mental illness (NAMI) evidence-based programs in southern New Mexico and to build better lives for people affected by mental illness through education, advocacy, and support.

Family Service of El Paso, Inc. - $195,662.52 People Empower El Paso To provide National Alliance on Mental illness (NAMI) evidence-based programs in El Paso County and to strengthen NAMI – El Paso as a central mental health peer support, advocacy, and education provider in the region.

Insights-El Paso Science Center Inc. - $58,570.00 Science of Mental Health Pilot Program To pilot a Science of Mental Health exhibit for an out-of-school time learning experience using programs from NAMI El Paso to reduce stigma by sparking conversations about mental health with fun, exploratory, hands-on, evidence-based neuroscience and mental health learning experiences.

New Mexico State University Foundation, Inc. - $90,208.80 Autism PEERS To implement the Autism Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS) for at least 50 participants. PEERS can improve the mental health of teens with autism by helping them make friendships and critical social connections.

Paso del Norte Children’s Development Center - $98,183.02 Help Me Grow El Paso To support the implementation of the family, community, and child health provider outreach component of Help Me Grow El Paso (HMG) system. The HMG model builds community capacity to enhance existing early childhood systems to support optimal growth and development.

Project Vida Health Center - $330,000.00 Bilingual Psychiatry Residency Program at Project Vida Health Center To increase the regional collaborative care capacity by expanding Graduate Medical Education (GME) slots in the El Paso region through the development of a model program.
