Improving mental health services in our region
December 9, 2024
Congratulations to the City of Alamogordo’s Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) for successfully completing its final Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training forum. Since 2018, the program has trained over 440 first responders from 39 agencies, equipping them to address mental health crisis effectively.
With funding from the Health Foundation’s ThinkChange Initiative, the MCRT has expanded to a five-person team, including clinicians, to address Otero County’s mental health needs. Recent achievements included hosting their first autism awareness event, creating opportunities for individuals and families on the spectrum to engage with first responders and local service providers. Additionally, funding has supported the expansion of CIT trainers and the establishment of a peer support team within the police department to sustain and enhance the MCRT program.

In Ciudad Juárez, ROTMENAS, in collaboration with local and state partners, including Chihuahua’s outreach office CSFMEU, organized a suicide prevention meeting focused on older adults. The event raised awareness about suicide risk factors and the critical need for specialized mental health programs for seniors.
Over 300 participants engaged in educational and cultural activities, including resource booths offering community support services and legal advice on elder care. Efforts are underway to integrate lessons learned from Texas Tech University Health Sciences – El Paso, with plans to pilot a telemedicine program in collaboration with Texas Tech’s Psychiatry and Jurisdiccion Sanitaria to address gaps in care.
The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is proud to partner with ROTMENAS to improve mental health services in Ciudad Juárez and the broader region.
