Our Line of Work – Grants and Finances

In 2022, the Health Foundation ended the year with $271.9 million in assets, up from $130 million in 1995, keeping administrative expenses less than 1 percent of foundation assets and bringing total grantmaking since inception to nearly $237 million.

Health Foundation CEO Participates in Nonprofit Management program at Harvard Business School

July 26, 2023

Paso del Norte Health Foundation CEO Tracy J. Yellen recently completed the Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management program at Harvard Business School. The intensive, week-long course was designed to deliver strategic perspectives, practical frameworks, and leadership skills to drive high performance. The program was led by 9 Harvard Business School faculty with 150 non-profit CEOs from across the U.S. and the world.

Smoke-Free Paso del Norte has new resources on their website

A Smoke-Free Paso del Norte recently updated its website with resources and tools to help parents and school administrators learn the truth about smoking and vapes. The website has videos that teach you how to spot a vape, how parents can talk with their kids, and the consequences of getting caught with THC in a vape.

A Smoke-Free Paso del Norte is an initiative of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation that works with community partners to prevent and reduce the use of vaping devices through education and outreach to parents, teachers, and youth.

Playa Drain Trail Bike Winner

July 26, 2023

Congratulations to Marisa Gomez, winner of the Playa Drain Trail bike raffle. Ms. Gomez’s name was randomly picked from hundreds of participants that registered at the Playa Drain Trail events over the past year.

“I’m so excited. I don’t know how to ride a bike, but this is a sign for me to learn,” said Ms. Gomez.

Ms. Gomez lives along the Playa Drain Trail by Hidden Valley Park and walked the trail from her house to receive her prize.

The Playa Drain Trails stretches from Ascarate Park to Capistrano Park and is part of the planned 68-mile county-wide Paso del Norte Trail.

Diabetes Summer Kid’s Camp

The El Paso Center for Diabetes hosted the Yolanda Arriola’s Kid’s Camp this July for children ages 5-12 with Type 1 diabetes. With funding support from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, children enjoyed fun activities, met some furry four-legged friends, participated in several outside excursions, were superheroes for a day, and learned about managing their diabetes during the three-day camp.

Back-to-School Vaccinations

Start the school year by getting vaccinated. The City of El Paso Department of Public Health and Immunize El Paso are offering FREE routine vaccines for children up to 18 years of age. Vaccines such as tetanus, HPV, polio, measles, meningitis, and whooping cough are available at several City Community Clinics around town. No appointment is necessary.
