Celebrate Trails Day: How the Community Came together to Celebrate the Paso del Norte Trail

May 21, 2024

Recently, the Paso del Norte Trail, in collaboration with Eco El Paso, El Paso Water, and the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department, hosted “Celebrate Trails Day: Planting Roots with the Community” on the Playa Drain Trail.

With the help of over 130 volunteers and generous donations, 25 trees were planted along the Playa Drain Trail from Mimosa Avenue to Durrill Road. Trees are an essential amenity and enhance the trail experience by providing cooling effects, improving air quality, promoting physical activity, and more.

Community volunteers from the Lower Valley Neighborhood Association, Ysleta High School, Riverside High School, the Army Volunteer Corp, UTEP’s Students for Public Health (SPH), City of El Paso Climate Fellows, and HARMAN helped with the tree planting.

Thank you to all the partners and sponsors: Rails and Trails Conservancy (RTC), Athletic Brewing, Eastside Discount Nursery, HARMAN, and Visit El Paso for their donated merchandise and information to share with our volunteers.

The Paso del Norte Trail is a project of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s Healthy Living priority area.
