A safe and healthy environment for children in Ciudad Juárez
June 20, 2022
For more than 30 years, Organización Popular Independiente, A.C. (OPI) has offered families in Ciudad Juárez a safe environment for children to engage in healthy programs and activities.
With more than 600 participants, ages 5 to 17 in the western area of Ciudad Juárez, MX, OPI’s Niñas, Niños y Jóvenes en Acción program provides out-of-school and summer activities that encourage a healthy future by promoting good decision-making, healthy friendships, academics, and emotional resilience. The Paso del Norte Health Foundation has partnered with OPI over the past eight-years through the Health Foundation’s Healthy Kids Initiative. “OPI is a community-based organization in Ciudad Juárez that has dedicated their work in developing programs that improve health outcomes by engaging disconnected youth in quality out-of-school programs,” said Sandra Day, associate program office, Paso del Norte Health Foundation. In early August, OPI will celebrate their thirtieth Summer in Action camp. Participants will receive healthy meals and snacks and enjoy fun and engaging activities. The camp will be free of charge to assist families that do not have the resources for their children to attend extracurricular activities during the summer break and school year.
