Accomplishments

Since 2013, the Charitable Foundation has worked to further the missions and philanthropic efforts of community partners and stakeholders throughout the region. We are proud to share a few of our major accomplishments from the past year made possible because of the generosity and support of so many in our community.

We partnered with the El Paso Independent School District Education Foundation and the Women’s Fund of El Paso to raise and distribute more than $100,000 in scholarships and classroom grants provided to deserving students in the community.

The Charitable Foundation welcomed several new partner agencies like the El Paso Veterans Health Advisory Council Fund, which supports efforts that improve the quality of healthcare for thousands of veterans enrolled in the El Paso VA Health Care System, El Paso Pro-Musica Foundation and the Deby Lewis Foundation, a fund dedicated to grant scholarships to graduates of Eastwood High School was established.

We facilitated a competitive request for proposals (RFP) process for the Loaves & Fishes Donor Advised Fund that provided $25,000 dollars in grants to address homelessness, poverty and mental and behavioral health in the region.

2016 Stories

Richard and Susan Moore gifted three works of fine art from their private collection to the Charitable Foundation. These included two paintings by well-known, El Paso artist Anabel Livermore and a Mata Ortiz vase by renowned Mexican artist Juan Quezada. The paintings grace the walls of the Charitable Foundation and the pottery vase is showcased in the board room of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation.

The Charitable Foundation worked closely with Bowie High School’s Jardín & Mercado Fund to raise funds to purchase a food truck. Teachers at Bowie collaborated with students to create a curriculum focused on teaching students how to plant and cultivate fresh food, cook and prepare nutritious meals as well as provide insight into entrepreneurship and managing a business. To date more than $40,000 has been fundraised for this endeavor. The OSO Good Food Truck is the final part of the Bowie Jardín & Mercado’s plan to establish a social venture that will create a stream of revenue to fund scholarships for deserving Bowie High School graduates.

The El Paso High Alumni Association partnered with the Charitable Foundation to celebrate El Paso High School’s Centennial. Throughout the entire year, sponsored events and festivities celebrated the 100 years of tradition with the main event being the legendary, annual homecoming “Battle of the Claw” football game pitting the El Paso High Tigers against Austin High’s Panthers. The game was accompanied by a historic attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Record for largest High School Reunion.

On November 11, 2016, the first ever El Paso Giving Day took place. The Charitable Foundation in collaboration with local nonprofit organizations and with the support of businesses and community stakeholders developed and coordinated this one day, on-line fundraising event. At day’s end, more than $145,000 was raised with 1,515 gifts for 135 nonprofit organizations, 40% of whom were donating for the first time.
