New website for recently diagnosed cancer patients and caregivers
August 24, 2021
The Rio Grande Cancer Foundation (RGCF) has launched a new website designed specifically for recently diagnosed cancer patients and their caregivers. The website, www.cancerhelpcenter.org, provides a direct connection to the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation, allowing patients to quickly access information about their diagnoses, support services and financial assistance. The CancerHelpCenter.org website also includes information about other local and national resources available to cancer patients.
The website is funded in part from a grant by the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and is a response to the limited access that cancer patients have to resources during the pandemic.
“It became difficult to reach cancer patients to offer our services,” said Patty Tiscareño, RGCF Executive Director. “CancerHelpCenter.org provides a simple and direct way to make our resources available to cancer patients and their caregivers.”
The portal is available in English and Spanish and offers an easy to navigate home page. Also, support material and specially designed kiosks have been developed to help medical personnel direct newly diagnosed patients to the website.
“It is important to make doctor’s office staff aware of the portal so that they can offer it to patients who have been given a cancer diagnosis. Patients will be able to use our website from their phone or tablet – even while they are still at their doctor’s offices,” said Tiscareño.
A cancer diagnosis is difficult to understand and overwhelming. CancerHelpCenter.org is designed to help make a patient’s cancer journey more manageable by offering a variety of free services. Patients will have access to cancer information, digital and printed tools such as a treatment notebook, nutrition guidance, access to specialized garment fittings and financial assistance.
