New Grants to Support Mental Health and Emotional Well-being

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded six grants totaling more than $1.1 million under the Mental Health and Emotional Well-being Priority Area. The Priority Area purpose is to reduce the stigma and negative bias associated with mental illness, and to increase coordination and communication among regional stakeholders to improve the behavioral health system of care.

Funded organizations are:

Family Service of El Paso, Inc. - $304,809.00
People Empower El Paso (PEEP)
To provide National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) evidence-based programs including Family to Family, NAMI Basics, Parents and Teachers as Allies, NAMI Provider Training, NAMI Homefront, and In Our Own Voice in El Paso County and to strengthen NAMI – El Paso as a central mental health advocacy and education provider in the region.

Texas Tech Foundation, Inc. - $165,000.00
Special Behavioral Health System Technical and Program Implementation Support
To provide technical and program implementation support in consultation with the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute (MMHPI) to create the Child Psychiatry Access Network (CPAN) for the El Paso region and to expand the telemedicine program in collaboration with local school systems.

Emergence Health Network/El Paso MHMR - $222,667.81
Mental Health Learning Library
To provide evidence-based and evidence-informed trainings for and least 450 educators and law enforcement officers in the community including; Mental Health First Aid, Crisis Intervention Training, suicide prevention, self-harm, test anxiety, and grief stress management. Continuing educational credits (CEUs) will be pursued for evidence-informed trainings.

City of Alamogordo - $211,603.57
Improving systems to improve care: Building a culture of CIT in Alamogordo
To improve the Alamogordo area mental health continuum of care for justice-involved persons by implementing a Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT), engaging Peer Recovery Specialists, and coordinating crisis response/intervention resources in the City of Alamogordo and Otero County.

Comision de Salud Fronteriza Mexico – Estados Unidos - $161,129.22
Continuation and dissemination of the ROTMENAS mental health project
To implement data informed actions and strengthen ROTMENAS behavioral health system of care collaborative in Ciudad Juárez, provide evidence-based training in programs such as “mental health (MH GAP)” for professionals and lay health workers in Ciudad Juárez, and to advocate for policy change related to mental health service systems within the state of Chihuahua.

Techo Comunitario, A.C. - $45,100.00
Triple P Positive Parenting Program in Ciudad Juárez
To implement the Triple P evidence-based program in 10 at risk neighborhoods in Ciudad Juárez.
