New grants awarded under the Mental Health and Emotional Well-being Priority Area

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded six grants totaling more than $867,000 under the Mental Health and Emotional Well-being Priority Area – Think.Change Initiative. The purpose of the Think.Change initiative is to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
Funded organizations are:
Doña Ana County Health & Human Services - $127,875.00
Nuestras Emociones - Our Emotional Health and Well-Being
To provide Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainings, NAMI Family to Family (F2F) courses and the Nuestras Emociones Promotora program to promote a Think.Change culture in Doña Ana County.
El Paso Child Guidance Center - $57,121.00
Assessing and Addressing Public Stigma in Child and Adolescent Serving Agencies
To reduce stigma associated with mental illness among professionals who have frequent contact with consumers by developing the El Paso Child Guidance Center into a trauma informed care resource center and providing trauma informed care trainings to six El Paso County organizations that serve children and adolescents.
Emergence Health Network - $195,924.99
Project Emerge
To provide 93 Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainings for 1,855 individuals in El Paso County and train an additional 25 MHFA instructors.
Family Service of El Paso, Inc. - $272,563.88
NAMI El Paso, People Empower El Paso
To provide National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) evidence-based programs including Family to Family, NAMI Basics, Parents and Teachers as Allies, and In Our Own Voice in El Paso County and to strengthen NAMI – El Paso as a central mental health advocacy and education provider in the region.
Techo Comunitario, A.C. - $53,000.00
Programa de Parentalidad Positiva Triple P
To implement the Triple P evidence-based program in eight at risk neighborhoods in Ciudad Juárez, MX.
Texas A&M University - $161,115.00
De Mujer A Mujer
To provide “Es Dificil Ser Mujer” instructor continuing education workshops for community lay health workers and provide the “Es Dificil Ser Mujer” evidence-based program courses for up to 400 women ages 18 - 59 years old in the Texas A&M Colonias Program service areas of El Paso and Hudspeth Counties.
