More than $2.4 million awarded in grants to support programs in the region

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 14 grants totaling more than $2.4 million under the Health Eating & Active Living, Mental Health and Emotional Well-being, Healthy Kids and Health Leadership priority areas.

Funded organizations are:

Healthy Eating Active Living

Paso del Norte Information Exchange (PHIX) - $444,400.00
Diabetes Management and Tracking
To develop a referral system to send/receive referrals/results electronically between diabetes medical and education providers. Also, to develop a Diabetes Data Workgroup to collect, share, and utilize diabetes-related data to meaningfully inform decision-making in El Paso, TX.

Mental Health and Emotional Well-being

Comision del Salud Fronteriza Mexico-Estados Unidos - $192,585.70
Proyecto ROTMENAS 2021: Continued work on mental health and response to COVID-19 pandemic
To implement data informed actions and strengthen the ROTMENAS behavioral health system of care collaborative in Ciudad Juárez, provide evidence-based training in programs such as “mental health (MH GAP)” for professionals and lay health workers in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and to advocate for policy change related to mental health service systems within the state of Chihuahua.

El Paso Child Guidance Center - $227,923.78
Building a Trauma Informed Borderland
To reduce stigma associated with mental illness among professionals who have frequent contact with consumers by strengthening and expanding the existing Trauma Informed Care Learning Community (TIROLC) and to increase the number of mental health providers that serve children and adolescents who are trained in evidence based therapeutic approaches and trauma informed care practices.

Family Services of El Paso, Inc. - $242,305.00
The People Empower El Paso (PEEP) Project
To provide National Alliance on Mental illness (NAMI) evidence-based programs including Family to Family, NAMI Basics, Parents and Teachers as Allies, NAMI Provider Training, NAMI Homefront, and In Our Own Voice in El Paso County and to strengthen NAMI – El Paso as a central mental health advocacy and education provider in the region.

YWCA El Paso del Norte Region - $202,830.00
Project ALMA (Active Learning Mindful Achievement)
To reduce stigma associated with mental illness among individuals who have frequent contact with consumers by reviewing and revising policies and practices and training staff for all YWCA child serving departments and child care centers thereby creating a trauma informed culture and environments within the YWCA organization.

Healthy Kids

Boy Scouts of America Yucca Council - $85,736.75
Unidos Prosperamos
To retain 100 disconnected boys and girls in established Scouting programs in rural communities in Doña Ana, Luna, Otero, Hudspeth, and El Paso Counties.

Centro de Asesoria y Promocion Juvenil, A.C. - $139,700.00
Formando adolescents saludables en entornos positivos
To implement out-of-school and summer programs in five community centers for at least 600 disconnected youth ages 10-17 in Ciudad Juárez, MX.

Creative Kids, Inc. - $82,997.50
Project ABLE (Art Brokers Learning Experiences)
To provide a year-round arts-based program to 100 disconnected youth in Fabens, TX, using the Artists-in-Residence model and pilot the model in San Elizario, TX.

To provide out-of-school and summer programming to 600 disconnected youth, ages 5-17, in Southwest Ciudad Juárez, MX.

Health Leadership – COVID-19 Recovery Grants

El Paso Center for Children, Inc. - $161,251.56
Organizational Recovery and Resilience
To assist in organizational recovery from COVID-19 and preparedness for post pandemic conditions or future outbreaks by; modifying center facilities to serve more youth while preventing the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, revising policies and practices, and adding a marketing strategic plan to strengthen and expand service delivery options in El Paso, TX.

El Paso Child Guidance Center - $250,199.47
Extending Healing and Hope: Strengthening the Disaster Resilience of the El Paso Child Guidance Center
To assist in organizational recovery from COVID-19 and preparedness for post pandemic conditions or future outbreaks by modifying policies and practices, adding to the available service array, and exploring community partnerships for service to expand telehealth and face-to-face service delivery options in El Paso, TX.

Families and Youth, Inc. - $136,826.80
FYI’s COVID-19 Adaptation & Recovery Efforts (CARE) Project
Invest in technology to support telehealth services, rebrand the organization to better communicate services, and relocate harm reductions services at their location in Las Cruces, NM.

Family Services of El Paso, Inc. - $103,567.31
El Paso Mental Health Expansion Initiative
To assist in organizational recovery from COVID-19 and preparedness for post pandemic conditions or future outbreaks by modifying intake triage and upgrading technology in El Paso, TX.
