Investing in Disease Prevention and Management

In 2023, the Health Foundation invested $3.02 million to support 42 grants under the Disease Prevention & Management priority area to advance efforts to prevent and manage diabetes and mental illness across the region.

2023 grantees included:

  • Texas Tech Hunt School of Dental Medicine, providing patients who visit the Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic with a routine dental exam and the opportunity to test their A1C;
  • The University of Texas at El Paso with diabetes awareness training program for seniors Public Health students;
  • El Paso Center for Diabetes creating new signs and symptoms diabetes campaign “Diabetes, Now What?”;
  • Project Vida to secure accreditation to provide specialized training in community psychiatry, cultural competency and social determinants of health for medical students; and
  • Otero County, Mobile Crisis Response Team to become the essential component of the Alamogordo Police Department.
