Health Foundation awards new grants to support Healthy Eating & Active Living (2021)

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded 8 grants totaling more than $1.2 million for the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Initiative under the Healthy Living Priority Area. The purpose of the HEAL Initiative is to make healthy eating and active living the easy choice for youth and their families in the region.

Funded organizations are:

Arbol de Vida - $151,905.36
Arbol de Vida program
To provide nutritious meals and structured physical activity to 100 children in Rancho Anapra and Loma de Poleo in Ciudad Juárez, MX.

Border Partners - $134,400.00
Healthy Eating and Active Living in Palomas, Chihuahua, Mexico
To provide nutrition and gardening education, nutritious meals to schools and seniors, and provide community events and maintain venues for physical activity in Palomas, MX.

Desert Spoon Food Hub - $98,290.00
Tasterspace: Expanding Food Education Among School-aged Children
To pilot a nutrition education program to improve food literacy and fruit and vegetable consumption among 100 3rd-5th graders in El Paso, TX.

El Paso Diabetes Association, Inc. - $27,060.00
Sabrosa Vida Cooking Class
To conduct Sabrosa Vida nutrition and cooking classes to people in El Paso, TX.

Kelly Center For Hunger Relief - $145,992.00
Kelly FreshStart program
To assist a minimum of 300 low-income, food insecure adults in achieving goals towards to a more independent and food secure life in El Paso, TX.

La Semilla Food Center - $350,482.00
Las Semilla Edible Education and Community Education
To train and provide technical support to teachers to provide school garden and nutrition education programming and to provide training workshops for community organizations seeking to implement community gardens in Doña Ana County, NM, and El Paso, TX.

Texas A&M University - $167,053.70

To provide promotora-led healthy eating classes and physical activity opportunities to 250 intergenerational families living in colonia communities of Far East El Paso County and Hudspeth County, TX.

University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston - $147,902.00
Primary Care Obesity Management: Efficacy and Implementation Evaluation
To deploy and evaluate the implementation of a comprehensive primary care obesity management program in La Clinica de Familia in Chaparral, NM.
