Health Advocate receives 2019 Pillar of Health Award from City

Congratulations to Annette Torres for receiving the 2019 Pillar of Health Award by the City of El Paso Department of Public Health. This award recognizes departmental employees, City departments and community individuals and organizations that have contributed substantially to regional Public Health goals and improvements in 2018.

Ms. Torres has helped to support local coalitions pass tobacco ordinances in Anthony and San Elizario as well as a tobacco free policy for El Paso County. She has also helped to support the City of El Paso in its adoption of a social host ordinance.

“Annette’s partnership with the Department of Public Health goes beyond a simple work partnership,” said Joy Leos, Health Education Program Manager at the El Paso Department of Public Health. “She loves our community as works tirelessly as a path builder to enhance our communities health and quality of life.”

Ms. Torres is the program manager for A Smoke Free Paso del Norte, an initiative of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and managed by the YMCA of El Paso.
