Governor Abbott Appoints Staffer to Texas Diabetes Council

Congratulations to Michael P. Kelly, PhD., Vice President of Programs for the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, on his appointment by Governor Greg Abbott to serve on the Texas Diabetes Council.

The Council addresses issues affecting people with diabetes in Texas and advises the Texas Legislature on legislation needed to develop and maintain a statewide system of quality education services for all people with diabetes and health professionals who offer diabetes treatment and education.

As someone living with diabetes, Dr. Kelly is a passionate leader in diabetes prevention, early detection, and management across the Paso del Norte region. He also has an extensive academic and professional background that supports such work.

Dr. Kelly received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Health Education and Doctor of Philosophy in Health Education from Texas A&M University. Joining the Health Foundation as staff in 1999, Dr. Kelly leads the Diabetes and REALIZE Initiatives.
