Creative Kids to showcase Playa Drain Trail student artwork at Airport

Creative Kids, a grantee of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, was recently chosen to showcase artwork in the Art Windows of El Paso Gallery exhibit at the El Paso International Airport. The Art Windows exhibit is located in the main floor by Carlos and Mickey’s restaurant. This exhibit will feature the work of Ysleta Independent School District students that were selected from area schools (Cedar Grove Elementary, Riverside High School, Riverside Middle School, Ascarate Elementary, Tejas School of Choice) to create murals that will be fabricated and installed in several locations along the Playa Drain Trail. Six of the 12 canvas trail artwork replicas will be on display from August 23 – November 15.

“It was a great opportunity to collaborate with a nonprofit, Foundation and school system to showcase the kids’ talent through visual art, while at the same time beautifying our community,” said Stephen Ingle, Creative Director + Co-Founder of Creative Kids.

The Playa Drain Trail is a 3.4-mile project that stretches from Ascarate Park to Riverside High School. This project is a partnership of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, City of El Paso and El Paso Water. The Health Foundation contributed $2.5 million for the design and construction of the trail. The City of El Paso is contributing $300,000 from the Quality of Life Bond for trail amenities like benches and shade structures. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department will maintain the trail once completed. El Paso Water purchased the Playa Drain Trail for storm water management and is allowing for its public use as a trail.

“We are excited to partner with Creative Kids and showcase the amazing talent of YISD’s students,” said Tracy J. Yellen, Paso del Norte Foundation, CEO. “The artwork developed by the students working with their teachers and Creative Kids represent the culture, colors and habitat of the neighborhood that people will enjoy viewing along the trail.”
