Celebrating healthy eating and active living during HEAL Week

The Paso del Norte Institute for Healthy Living at UTEP (IHL) will celebrate HEAL Week from April 13-14 with a variety of events that raise the awareness for the importance of healthy eating and active living in preventing disease, provide continuing education to healthcare providers in the areas of nutrition and obesity, and celebrate IHL partners dedicated to increasing healthy eating and active living in the Paso del Norte region. Three major events will take place during 2019 HEAL Week. Friday, April 12, 2019
3 - 4 p.m.
El Paso Club

Community Reception recognizing the partnerships that help make healthy eating and active living the easy choice in the Paso del Norte region. The HEAL Hero Award will be announced at this event. This award recognizes an organization or individual for their significant contribution toward increasing healthy eating and active living in the Paso del Norte region.

HEAL U Clinical & Research Symposium
UTEP Health Sciences and Nursing Building

The HEAL U Clinical Symposium delivers clinical training to healthcare providers. Content includes: Diabesity and Behavior Change, This is Your Brain on Food, Effective Coaching Skills and Strategies, Challenging Obesity Cases, Exercise, Sedentary Behavior and Health, Motivational Intervention for Diet & Exercise. Health care providers, including physicians, nurses, dietitians, exercise physiologists, and other health professionals are encouraged to attend. Continuing professional education credits available and registration is required. In addition, students from regional universities will present research posters.

The HEAL Unite Wellness Fair is FREE and open to the public. It showcases the work of the HEAL partners from the community. Experts on weight, nutrition, and physical activity will be available for “Ask the Doctor”. In addition, the event will include body composition testing, health screenings, veggie-meter™ testing, bounce house, family activities, raffle drawings, music, and giveaways to the first 250 participants. Sponsored by the IHL at UTEP.
