Paso del Norte Health Foundation Launches New Healthy Aging Initiative
September 24, 2026
The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is launching a new Healthy Aging initiative to help people prepare for and navigate the changes that come with aging while supporting their health, independence, and quality of life.
The Paso del Norte region is home to about 255,000 adults age 65 and older, representing 9.5% of the population. As the region’s older adult population continues to grow, the need for health programs and social services is expected to increase as well.
Recently, the PdNHF Board of Directors approved a new strategic plan that will guide Healthy Aging investments. The plan uses a life-course model to identify opportunities to reduce risks and strengthen cognitive, physical, mental health, and social connection throughout life.
Through a cross-border assessment, the PdNHF identified major strengths in the region, including strong family ties, respect for older adults, and community support. The assessment also identified priorities for action, including caregiver support, resource navigation, information, and education about healthy aging. In the first five years, the strategic plan will lay the foundation for the Healthy Aging initiative by focusing on the following goals:
- Building regional partnerships through a Healthy Aging Alliance.
- Developing a regional resource website and other communications for older adults and caregivers.
- Advancing age- and caregiver-friendly practices through research into workplace and organizational policies.
- Launching a Healthy Aging learning series to share best practices, encourage new ideas, and foster regional partnerships.
With the launch of the Healthy Aging Initiative, the PdNHF continues its commitment to helping people live healthy lives at every stage. From helping youth thrive through the Healthy Kids Initiative to helping adults prepare for and navigate aging, the PdNHF invests in initiatives and programs that promote the community’s health and well-being.
