The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (Health Foundation) is pleased to announce a partnership with the City of El Paso and El Paso Water to build a linear trail on the Playa Drain in south central El Paso.
The City of El Paso approved a Donation, Development and License Agreement authorizing the Health Foundation to design and construct a 3.4 linear trail on the Playa Drain from Ascarate Park to Riverside High School (map attached). Hillrise Elementary School is a short five- to eight-minute drive from the campus of New Mexico State University. Twice a week, female student athletes from the campus make the trek to Hillrise to work with 50 or so grade-school girls to improve their physical activity.
The program is called “Aggie Play,” and it’s creating buzz under the Paso del Norte Health Foundation’s Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) initiative.

Unlike other days, Mario can’t wait to get home to show his mother the flyer he received at school about joining Boy Scouts. He and several classmates received the same flyer and hope they can be part of this afterschool activity. Mario and his friends are among the youth in the region who are disconnected or not involved in out of school activities.

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (PdNHF) seeks a regional organization to manage the REALIZE Board Training program. Organizations interested in managing REALIZE Board Training, with a grant from PdNHF, are encouraged to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI). After LOI review, selected agencies will be invited to submit a full proposal.

We are happy to welcome Flor Morales to the Health Foundation staff.
Flor is the first person you see when you visit our office. She is responsible for providing administrative and general clerical support to staff. Also, she will assist in scheduling all meeting rooms and the Health Foundation communications database.
Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family and supports her children in school and sport activities.

Joe Tomaka and his team at Crimson Research on the campus of New Mexico State University are learning from smokers as much as they are helping smokers kick the habit.
Tomaka is the principal investigator for a grant from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation that promotes a smoke-free southern New Mexico by reducing tobacco use among adults in Doña Ana, Otero and Luna counties.
The Crimson Research team has engaged more than 1,000 people in smoking cessation strategies since work on the grant began a year ago, far exceeding its targeted goal of 300 people.
