In efforts to keep El Pasoans safe and active, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation is partnering with the City of El Paso and El Paso Water Utilities to build a trail from Ascarate Park to Riverside High School. The planned Playa Drain Trail, which will run parallel to loop 375/border highway on the banks of a former irrigation ditch, will offer the community facilities for recreational and physical activities.

Recently, $2,000,000 were approved by the Health Foundation Board to be invested in the design and construction for the 3.4 mile section of the trail. This will be in partnership with the City of El Paso who has committed $300,000 as part of the 2012 Quality of Life Bond Project for amenities, and El Paso Water, which purchased the Playa Drain Trail from the El Paso County Water District #1. Future plans for the Playa Drain Trail include finding funding to develop the full 8 mile length of the trail.

The Health Foundation seeks community input on the design and amenities for the trail. At this meeting, preliminary design concepts for the trail will be shared with the community.
